The surface treatment methods for channel steel can be mainly classified into four categories. Each method has its specific processing characteristics and applicable scenarios.

I. Rust Prevention Treatment
This is the fundamental process for extending the service life of channel steel, and it mainly includes:
- 1. Sandblasting Rust Removal: Using high-speed sand spraying to remove the oxide layer and rust on the surface, making the surface smooth.
- 2. Acid Washing Rust Removal: Utilizing an acidic solution to dissolve the surface oxides and rust.
- 3. Hot-dip Galvanizing: Immersing the channel steel in molten zinc liquid to form a rust-resistant protective layer.
II. Galvanization Treatment
This is the main method for enhancing corrosion resistance, and it is divided into:
- 1. Hot Galvanization: Steel bars are immersed in high-temperature zinc solution and galvanized through a thermal reaction. The protective effect is good and it is suitable for harsh environments.
- 2. Electro-galvanization (Cold Plating): Zinc ions are deposited on the surface through an electric current, forming a uniform zinc layer. The operation is simple and the appearance quality is good.

III. Painting Treatment
This process is mainly used to enhance the decorative effect and appearance quality. The manufacturing procedure consists of four steps: sanding, primer, intermediate coat, and topcoat. Different types of paint materials such as epoxy paint and polyurethane paint can be selected to meet different environmental requirements.
IV. Other Surface Processing Methods
- 1. Phosphating Treatment: Forms a phosphate protective film, enhancing corrosion resistance and improving the adhesion of the coating.
- 2. Grinding Treatment: Includes mechanical grinding and chemical grinding, improving surface accuracy and smoothness.
- 3. Anodizing: Mainly used for aluminum materials, forming an oxide film through electrolysis.
- 4. Wire Drawing Treatment: Achieves a linear decorative effect through grinding, highlighting the metallic texture.
Recommendations for selection:
- Environments with high humidity and strong corrosiveness (such as marine environments): Opt for hot-dip galvanizing.
- For indoor environments with high requirements for appearance: You can choose painting or cold plating techniques.
- When it is necessary to enhance the adhesion of the coating: phosphating treatment can be carried out first.
When making the actual selection, various factors such as the usage environment, cost budget and performance requirements should be taken into comprehensive consideration.
