1. What is hot formed?

In steel pipe production, thermoforming is a metal forming process that is completed above the recrystallization temperature. Specifically, thermoforming technology involves heating the joints of pipe fittings and then heat shrinking them with a mold. After repeated heat shrink treatment, the joints of the pipe fittings are gradually formed. Finally, the inner core is extruded and fused to form the design shape. This process can achieve local heating and plastic deformation of metal materials, so as to improve the molding performance of the material and reduce the molding difficulty.

 

In the production process of steel pipes, thermoforming usually includes the following steps:

  1. Heating the tube billet: heating the tube billet or steel ingot to a certain temperature to make it reach a thermoplastic state, which is convenient for subsequent molding processing.
  2. Perforation: The heated solid tube blank is perforated through the perforator to form a hollow tube.
  3. Rolling: the perforated tube is extended on the rolling mill so that its diameter and wall thickness are close to the finished size.
  4. Sizing reduction: further sizing of the tube through the sizing machine, so that it reaches the exact size of the finished product.
  5. Cooling: The steel pipe after forming needs to be cooled to fix its shape and size.
  6. Finishing: Surface treatment and size correction of the cooled steel pipe to meet the quality requirements of the final product.

 

Because the thermoformed steel pipe is formed at high temperature, it has good plasticity and ductility, and can produce high-strength and high-precision steel pipe products. This process is especially suitable for the production of large diameter, thick wall or special shape steel pipe.

2. Which areas are the most widely used hot formed steel pipes?
