I. What is BS1387 HOLLOW SECTIONS?

III. Regarding Galvanization
1. Is it mandatory to galvanize according to BS 1387?
It is not mandatory, but most export orders require galvanization.
- BS 1387 itself offers both Black (uncoated) and Hot-Dip Galvanized (galvanized with hot-dip process) states.
- The surface of the black pipe is iron oxide scale, which does not prevent rust. It needs to be painted before use - mainly used for fire sprinkler red paint, indoor non-humid environments, or for subsequent application of anti-corrosion coatings.
- In the foreign trade market, "BS 1387 pipe" is referred to, and the customer assumes that it means hot-dip galvanized pipe (GI pipe), especially in the Middle East and Commonwealth markets.
2. Zinc Application Requirements
The galvanization grades in BS 1387 are denoted as Class B / Class C (this refers to the zinc layer thickness dimension, independent of the Light/Medium/Heavy wall thickness):
