ASTM A500 is a standard specification for cold-formed welded and seamless carbon steel structural tubing in round, square, and rectangular shapes. The highest grade (strength level) specified in ASTM A500 is:Grade DThis grade offers the highest mechanical properties among the available grades (A, B, C, and D) in ASTM A500.

• Elongation:

Minimum elongation in 2 inches (50.8 mm) varies based on wall thickness and tube shape but is generally ≥ 16% for structural applications.

• Carbon (C): ≤ 0.26%
• Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.35%
• Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.035%
• Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.035%
• Copper (Cu): ≥ 0.20% (when copper steel is specified)

Manufacturing Process:

• Tubes can be welded (electric-resistance welded, ERW) or seamless (SMLS).
• Cold-forming is required to achieve mechanical properties.
